Animal Crossing is a life simulation game for the GameCube in which you move into a village populated by animal neighbours. There is no win condition. Instead you spend your time fishing, catching insects, digging up fossils, shopping, decorating your house and talking to the residents, who have their own personalities and remember your conversations. The game runs on the console’s internal clock and calendar, so time passes when you are not playing, shops keep opening hours, seasons change and holidays arrive on their own schedule. Tom Nook sells you a house on credit, and paying off and expanding it gives the game a loose long-term structure. You can write letters, collect furniture sets, donate finds to the museum and play emulated NES games found on the furniture you acquire.
