Battalion Wars – Gamecube Game

Battalion Wars turns the turn-based ideas of Nintendo’s military strategy series into real-time action. You command mixed forces of infantry, tanks, anti-air vehicles, helicopters and other units, issuing orders to squads while directly taking control of any single unit yourself. Switching between units on the fly is central to play: you might drive a tank into position, hop into a rifleman to clear a bunker, then take the controls of an aircraft to strafe a convoy. Missions are structured around objectives such as escorting vehicles, destroying installations and holding ground, and each unit type has clear strengths and weaknesses to exploit. The cartoonish soldiers, bright presentation and cutscenes keep the tone light despite the wartime setting. Play is single-player, with campaign missions spanning several rival nations.
