Caliber 50 – Sega Genesis Game

Caliber 50 is an overhead military shooter for the Sega Genesis, converted from the arcade original. You control a lone soldier viewed from above, fighting through jungle, village and river environments against large numbers of enemy troops, emplacements and vehicles. Your soldier can aim independently of the direction of movement, so much of the play involves backing away while keeping fire on approaching enemies. Alongside a standard weapon you carry grenades and can pick up heavier firepower dropped along the way, which helps against armour and fortified positions. Levels scroll as you advance, with enemies arriving from the edges of the screen and from cover, and the difficulty comes from managing crossfire in open ground. It is a straightforward run-and-gun built around movement, aiming and ammunition rather than exploration.
