College Slam – Gameboy Game

College Slam is an arcade basketball game for the Game Boy, played two-on-two in the exaggerated style of the era’s over-the-top hoops titles. It uses college teams rather than professional ones, and games are short, high-scoring affairs with no fouls, no out-of-bounds fuss and little interest in realistic tactics. You pass, shoot, shove and go up for oversized dunks, with turbo used to sprint and power through defenders. Play consists of quick timed periods on a side-view court, with a small scoreboard and simple sprite animation suited to the handheld’s monochrome display. Modes cover single games against the computer and progression through a series of opponents, with a link option available for head-to-head play on some configurations. Controls are kept to a couple of buttons for shooting, passing and stealing.
