Contra – NES Game

Contra is a run-and-gun action game for the NES in which you play as a commando fighting through enemy-held jungle, bases and alien lairs. You run, jump and shoot in eight directions, dying in a single hit, and pick up floating power-ups that swap your default rifle for weapons such as the spread shot, laser and flamethrower. Most stages scroll side-on, while others switch to an into-the-screen view where you advance through corridors destroying wall cores to open the way forward. Each area ends with a large boss built around a repeating attack pattern and a specific weak point. Two players can play simultaneously, sharing a pool of lives and continues, and the game is known for demanding precise movement and memorisation of enemy placement.
