Crystal’s Pony Tale – Sega Genesis Game

Crystal’s Pony Tale is a Genesis game aimed at younger players. You control Crystal, a girl who explores colourful side-scrolling outdoor areas with the goal of freeing ponies that have been taken away. Play involves walking and jumping around gentle levels, collecting items such as apples and horseshoes, avoiding or dealing with simple obstacles, and riding a pony in some sections. The pace is slow and the challenge is light, with no combat of the kind found in most platformers of the era. Between stages there are simple activities including a mode where you colour in pictures using the controller. Presentation uses bright cartoon backgrounds, large sprites and a cheerful soundtrack throughout, and the game is designed to be readable and approachable for children playing without help.
