Donkey Kong 64 is a 3D platform adventure built around exploration and collecting. King K. Rool and the Kremlings have taken over Donkey Kong Island, and you work through large themed worlds gathering Golden Bananas, coins, blueprints and other items to open the way forward. Five playable Kongs each have their own moves, weapons and instruments, and coloured bananas and switches are tied to specific characters, so progress involves swapping between them at tag barrels and revisiting areas once you have the right abilities. Alongside the platforming there are minigames, bonus barrel challenges, races, boss fights and arcade-style diversions. Multiplayer battle modes are included. The cartridge requires the Nintendo 64 Expansion Pak to play.
