General Chaos is a squad-based action game for the Sega Genesis played from an overhead view. You command a small team of cartoonish soldiers against an opposing force, choosing between a mixed squad of specialists with different weapons or a pair of commandos who fight at close range. Battles play out in real time across small maps, and you switch between your troops to position them behind cover, flank the enemy and launch attacks. Fallen soldiers can be treated by a medic before they are lost for good. Between skirmishes you advance across a campaign map, with wins pushing your front line forward. Two players can team up cooperatively or fight each other, and the tone stays comedic throughout, with squabbling troops and slapstick animation.
