Golden Axe – Sega Master System Game

This is the Sega Master System conversion of the arcade fantasy beat ’em up Golden Axe. You travel left to right through forests, villages and castle grounds, cutting down skeletal soldiers, armored knights and axe-throwing brutes on the way to the tyrant Death Adder. Attacks include sword swings, jumping strikes and throws, and you can knock magic-carrying thieves around to collect potions that fuel screen-clearing elemental spells. Rideable beasts appear in some stages, letting you attack with their tails or flame breath until you are thrown off. The 8-bit version rebuilds the arcade game around the Master System’s hardware, with redrawn sprites, reworked stage layouts and additional areas that do not appear in the coin-op, and it is played solo rather than cooperatively.
