Grand Theft Auto 2 continues the series’ top-down, open-ended crime formula. The city is divided into districts, each home to rival gangs who hand out work through payphones. Taking jobs for one gang raises your standing with them while damaging it with their enemies, so respect has to be managed: allies offer better paying work, while gangs that dislike you will shoot on sight. You steal cars from the street, use garages and repair shops to deal with police heat, and save progress at churches. Missions cover thefts, hits, deliveries and getaways, and money earned counts toward the total needed to advance. Radio stations play as you drive, and pedestrians, police and gang members all react to the chaos you create in the streets.
