Harvest Moon 64 puts you in charge of a run-down farm that you rebuild over the course of in-game years. Days are spent chopping wood, clearing rocks and weeds, tilling fields, planting and watering crops through the seasons, and looking after cows, chickens and sheep for milk, eggs and wool. Shipping produce earns money that funds tools, animals and building upgrades. Time and stamina are limited each day, so you decide what gets done and what waits. The village nearby is populated with characters who follow their own routines, and befriending them opens up conversations, festivals and the chance to court and marry one of the young women in town. Over time the story continues into family life on the farm.
