NBA Live 96 continues EA Sports’ basketball series on the Sega Genesis, using a side-on scrolling court view and sprite-based players. You play five-on-five games with licensed NBA teams, choosing plays, calling substitutions, and switching defenders as possession changes. Options let you adjust quarter length, fouls, and other rules, and you can play single games or work through a season and into the playoffs while the game tracks statistics. A second controller allows head-to-head or cooperative play, and multitap support permits additional players on compatible hardware. The presentation includes a scoreboard overlay, crowd audio, and sampled effects for the ball and rim. Roster and lineup management sits in menus between games for teams you take through a longer campaign.
