NHL 97 – Sega Genesis Game

The Genesis release of NHL 97 continues EA Sports’ hockey series on Sega’s 16-bit hardware, with an overhead-angled view of the rink and sprite-based players. NHL and NHLPA licensing means real clubs and real player names, and you can play exhibition games, run a season, or jump into the playoffs. Penalties, offsides and icing can be enabled or turned off, and power plays, checking and fights are part of the flow of a match. Two players can share the ice for head-to-head games using the second controller port. Behind the action you can dig into player ratings and statistics, set lines and make substitutions. The presentation is stripped back compared with the 32-bit versions, with the emphasis on quick, responsive arcade-leaning hockey.
