NHL 97 on Saturn is a version of EA Sports’ licensed hockey game, using NHL and NHLPA rights so real teams and named players take the ice. Matches are five-on-five with rule options for penalties, offsides and icing, letting you tune how strict the officiating is. Modes cover exhibition play, full seasons and playoff runs, and two players can face off against each other. Checking, fighting and power plays feature in the flow of a period, and menus let you look over player ratings, adjust lines and track statistics as a season progresses. The Saturn release presents the rink in 3D with commentary and arena audio behind the play. Camera options let you change your view of the ice.
