Ninja Gaiden – NES Game

Ninja Gaiden on the NES is a side-scrolling action game starring the ninja Ryu Hayabusa, who travels abroad to investigate his father’s death. You run, jump and slash with a sword, cling to walls to climb and reposition, and spend a shared spirit meter on ninja arts such as throwing stars, a windmill blade and fire attacks. Stages are broken into short sections that end with a boss fight, and enemies respawn quickly, so precise jumps and careful screen management matter, especially on later levels. Between acts the story is told through cinematic cut scenes with panning camera shots and dialogue, a presentation approach the series became known for. Losing all your lives sends you back to the start of the current stage.
