Philosoma – PS1 Game

Philosoma is a science fiction shooter for the PlayStation in which you pilot a fighter craft against an alien force. Its main hook is the way perspective changes between and within stages: sections play as a traditional side-scrolling shooter, others shift to a top-down view, and others place the camera behind or in front of your ship for into-the-screen combat. You hold multiple weapon types and switch between them to deal with enemies arriving from different angles, and stages build toward large boss encounters. Full-motion video and voiced cutscenes carry the story between missions, framing the campaign as a military operation. The game is played through as a linear series of levels rather than as an open selection, with the shifting viewpoints driving much of the variety.
