Pitfall Mayan Adventure – Sega Genesis Game

A side-scrolling platformer for the Sega Genesis in which you play Pitfall Harry Jr., searching the Central American jungle for his captured father. Stages carry you through rainforest, waterfalls, caves, mines and Mayan ruins, with pits, spikes, collapsing ground and animals such as scorpions, bats, frogs and jaguars in your way. Harry attacks with a whip and with thrown stones, and swings on vines and ropes to cross gaps. Treasure and power-ups are hidden along alternate routes, rewarding players who search rather than run straight ahead. The game is a modern take on the Atari 2600 original, keeping the jungle hazards and vine swinging while adding larger multi-screen levels, hand-drawn artwork and detailed animation. Timing matters more than speed, particularly on swings and jumps between platforms.
