Shadow Tower – PS1 Game

Shadow Tower is a first-person dungeon crawler for the PlayStation 1, played from a slow, deliberate perspective as you descend through a series of dark underground levels. You explore corridors and chambers in real time, fighting monsters with melee weapons and magic while watching your health and other resources. Weapons and armour wear down with use and eventually break, so managing your equipment and deciding what to carry matters as much as combat skill. Enemies can absorb attacks and hit hard, encouraging careful approaches and retreats rather than direct assaults. There is very little hand-holding: the game gives you sparse guidance and expects you to map out the layout, work out which paths lead deeper, and piece together the setting from what you find. The atmosphere is bleak and quiet throughout.
