Sol Divide – PS1 Game

Sol Divide is a horizontally scrolling shoot ’em up with a dark fantasy setting rather than the usual spacecraft. You choose one of a small cast of winged characters and fly through side-scrolling stages filled with monsters, dragons and armoured foes. Alongside a standard shot, your character can swing a melee weapon at close range and cast magic spells collected as items during play, which adds a layer of resource management to the usual dodging and pattern learning. Bosses are large and often organic in design, and stages move between castles, caverns and open skies. The PlayStation release brings the arcade game home with the option to continue and adjust settings. Play is single-player, viewed from the side, with a mix of ranged and hand-to-hand attacks.
