Speed Racer – PS1 Game

Speed Racer for the PlayStation is a racing game based on the classic anime. You drive the Mach 5 through courses inspired by the show, competing against rival drivers in races that lean toward action rather than strict circuit racing. The car’s gadgets are part of the design, so alongside steering and acceleration you can trigger special functions to deal with obstacles and opponents on the track. Environments vary from road courses to more hazardous stretches, and contact with rivals is an expected part of a race rather than something to avoid. The 3D presentation and camera keep the focus behind the car, and the anime licence shows up in the vehicle design, characters and overall tone. A straightforward pick for fans of the series.
