Spellcaster – Sega Master System Game

Spellcaster for the Sega Master System is an action game with adventure elements set in a mythic version of ancient Japan. You play Kane, a warrior monk sent by his temple to investigate dark forces threatening the land. Play alternates between two styles: side-scrolling action stages where you fight demons and monsters using melee attacks and magic spells, and adventure sequences presented with static scenes and text where you talk to characters, examine locations and choose actions to move the story forward. Spells are a central resource, used both for combat and to overcome obstacles that ordinary attacks cannot. The mixture of storytelling and action makes it an unusual entry in the Master System library, and it leans more heavily on narrative than most 8-bit Sega action titles.
