Star Fox 64 is an on-rails space shooter in which you pilot the Arwing through the Lylat system as Fox McCloud, joined by wingmates Falco, Peppy and Slippy. Most stages send you forward along a set path while you dodge obstacles, shoot enemy craft and answer radio chatter from your team, and some open into all-range mode arenas where you can turn freely and loop back on targets. Certain missions put you in the Landmaster tank or a submarine instead. Mission outcomes determine which route you take through the branching map, so different playthroughs pass through different planets and boss fights. The game supports the Rumble Pak and includes a multiplayer versus mode for dogfights against other players. Voice acting accompanies the story sequences and in-mission dialogue.
