The King of Fighters ’97 – Sega Saturn Game

The King of Fighters ’97 continues SNK’s team-based 2D fighting series on the Sega Saturn. You choose three fighters and battle rival teams in sequential one-on-one rounds until one side has no members left. The main addition in this entry is a choice between two play styles: Advanced, which lets you stock power gauges for later use and includes running and short hops, and Extra, which uses a chargeable gauge and a dash-and-dodge movement set closer to earlier games. The roster spans SNK’s fighting game characters organised into themed teams, with custom team creation also available. Controls use four attack buttons alongside joystick motions for special and super moves. Sprites and stages are hand-drawn 2D, and the game concludes a multi-year storyline running through the series.
