Double Dribble – NES Game

A basketball game for the NES featuring five-on-five play with a top-down side-scrolling court view. You pass, shoot, steal and block, and the game cuts away to close-up animated sequences when a player goes up for a dunk. Play options include games against the computer or a second player, and you choose from a set of city-based teams before tip-off. Matches use quarters with a game clock and a shot clock, and calls such as fouls and out-of-bounds are enforced. The presentation includes speech samples and a rendition of the national anthem before the game begins. Controls are simple enough to pick up quickly, with the depth coming from setting up open shots and timing defensive plays.
