Goal – NES Game

Goal is a football game for the Nintendo Entertainment System, played from a scrolling side-on or angled view of the pitch. You take charge of a team and control whichever player is closest to the ball, passing, shooting, sliding in for tackles and heading crosses using the NES pad. Matches follow standard rules with set pieces such as corners, throw-ins and free-kicks, and you can choose from a selection of national sides before playing through a series of games or a one-off match. Options let you adjust aspects of play before kick-off, and a second controller allows head-to-head matches. Sprites are small enough to show a good stretch of the field, with an indicator to show where off-screen play is heading. Straightforward, arcade-paced football on 8-bit hardware.
