1943: The Battle of Midway is a vertically scrolling aerial shooter set during the Pacific war. You pilot a fighter over the ocean, shooting down waves of enemy planes and attacking large warships and aircraft carriers that fill the screen at the end of missions. Instead of one-hit deaths, your plane carries an energy meter that drains from hits and gradually over time, so pickups that restore energy matter as much as firepower. Weapon upgrades change your shot type, and a screen-clearing special attack is available at the cost of energy. A loop manoeuvre lets you roll out of dense fire. Missions are numbered and interspersed with results screens rating your performance. This NES version adapts the arcade game for home consoles.
