Mortal Kombat – Gameboy Game

Mortal Kombat on the Game Boy is a handheld conversion of the arcade fighting game, presented in monochrome on a single small screen. The roster is trimmed down from the arcade version, and the fighters are drawn as small sprites based on the digitized characters from the original. Matches follow the standard format of best-of-three rounds against a ladder of opponents, with special moves performed by directional inputs and the two available buttons, plus blocking and uppercuts. Finishing moves are included in reduced form. There is a one-player ladder and head-to-head play using a Link Cable. The compressed presentation and simplified controls make it a stripped-back take on the arcade original built around the hardware’s limits.
