Pirates – NES Game

This NES release adapts the open-ended pirate game set in the Caribbean. Rather than following a fixed level structure, you take command of a ship and crew and decide how to make your fortune: sailing between ports, trading goods, attacking enemy vessels, raiding settlements and recruiting more men. Sailing is handled on a map of the Caribbean, while ship battles play out from an overhead view where wind direction, ship type and cannon range affect the outcome. Boarding actions and duels are resolved through sword-fighting sequences. You can align yourself with different European powers, take on missions from governors, and search for buried treasure and lost family members. Progress is measured by the wealth, land and rank you accumulate before retiring, so games can play out very differently from one attempt to the next.
