Altered Beast is a side-scrolling arcade action game brought to the Sega Genesis. You are a warrior raised from the dead by Zeus and sent to rescue his daughter Athena from Neff, punching and kicking your way through undead and monstrous enemies across horizontally scrolling stages. Defeating the two-headed wolves that appear releases spirit balls, and collecting them builds your body up until you transform into a beast form with its own attacks, such as a werewolf or a were-dragon, each stage granting a different creature. Every stage ends with a boss fight against one of Neff’s forms. The Genesis version supports one or two players and uses the same fixed-path structure and Greek mythological setting as the arcade original, including its digitised speech.
