Area 51 – Sega Saturn Game

Area 51 on Saturn is a conversion of the arcade light-gun shooter. You are part of a military team sent into the secret desert base after an alien organism escapes containment, and the game carries you along a set path while you shoot at whatever appears on screen. Targets include infected soldiers and alien creatures, while hitting the scientists you are supposed to rescue penalises you, so you have to pick your shots. The presentation uses digitised actors and pre-rendered backgrounds, and you reload by firing off-screen. Hidden bonus targets are tucked into the scenery for extra points. The game can be played with a standard controller or with a compatible Saturn light gun, and a second player can join for co-operative play.
