Banjo-Kazooie is a Nintendo 64 platformer starring a bear who carries a red bird in his backpack. Gruntilda the witch has kidnapped Banjo’s sister Tooty, and you set out from Spiral Mountain into the witch’s lair, a hub that unlocks new worlds as you gather jigsaw pieces called jiggies. Each world is an open space filled with characters to help, puzzles to solve, and collectibles including musical notes and Jinjos. Banjo and Kazooie share a growing move set taught by a mole named Bottles, covering rolling attacks, flight, egg shots, swimming, and more, while Mumbo Jumbo’s huts transform you into creatures such as a termite or a pumpkin to reach otherwise inaccessible areas. The game closes with a quiz-show confrontation against Gruntilda.
