Fatal Frame – Xbox Game

The Xbox release of Fatal Frame carries over the camera-based survival horror of the PlayStation 2 version. You control Miku Hinasaki, searching a shuttered Japanese mansion for her brother and confronting the spirits bound to it. Combat happens through the Camera Obscura: you raise the viewfinder, track a ghost as it drifts toward you, and take the photograph at the moment that inflicts the most damage. Film is finite and comes in grades of differing strength, so you weigh whether to fight or flee. Exploration fills the rest of the game, with fixed puzzles, locked doors, notes and diaries that piece together the mansion’s history, and spots where photographing the right thing reveals something otherwise invisible. Ambient sound and the camera’s static warn you when something is nearby.
