FIFA Soccer 97 is an entry in EA Sports’ long-running football series, presented with licensed clubs and national squads and commentary during matches. Play is viewed from an angled camera above the pitch, with passing, through balls, crosses and shooting mapped to the controller and set pieces handled in dedicated sequences. Alongside standard exhibition matches, league and cup competitions let you take a side through a season or knockout bracket. The game also includes an indoor mode played on a smaller enclosed pitch with walls, fewer players per side and faster, more continuous action. Options cover match length, difficulty and team lineups, and multiple players can compete on the same console. The Sega Saturn release uses the system’s controller for on-pitch control and menu navigation.
