Final Fantasy Tactics Advance is a tactical role-playing game for the Game Boy Advance. Marche and his friends are pulled from their ordinary town into Ivalice, a world shaped by a magic book, and must work through it to find a way home. Battles are fought on grid-based maps with turn order, elevation, and facing all playing a part. You recruit units from several races, each with its own selection of jobs, and characters learn abilities from the equipment they carry before mastering them permanently. A distinctive element is the law system: each battle imposes rules restricting certain actions, with penalties for breaking them. Progress is structured around a world map you assemble yourself, accepting missions from pubs, dispatching units on side errands, and returning to the story quests at your own pace.
