Gaiares – Sega Genesis Game

Gaiares is a horizontal-scrolling shooter for the Genesis built around a weapon-stealing mechanic. Your ship carries a detachable unit that you fire into enemies; on contact it absorbs their weapon and returns it to you, letting you arm yourself with the firepower of whatever you have just tagged. Because different enemies yield different weapons, you are constantly choosing what to steal and when to hold onto a loadout instead of swapping. Stages scroll through space, mechanical fortresses and organic environments, ending in large boss fights, and the difficulty leans on dense enemy patterns and tight spaces. The game makes heavy use of scaling, layered backgrounds and long boss encounters, and story text between stages frames the mission. Play is single-player throughout.
