Grand Theft Auto III moves the series into 3D, placing you in Liberty City with a behind-the-shoulder camera and a city you can explore on foot or in almost any vehicle you can pull a driver out of. You play a silent criminal left for dead after a robbery goes wrong, taking work from a string of gangsters, mob figures and other contacts as you make your way across the city’s islands, which open up as the story progresses. Missions involve driving, shooting, chases and deliveries, while side activities include taxi fares, ambulance runs and vigilante work. Radio stations with talk shows and music play while you drive, and causing trouble raises a wanted level that brings escalating police response until you evade them or repaint your car.
