Grandia II is a turn-based role-playing game for the Sega Dreamcast. You take the role of Ryudo, a blunt mercenary known as a Geohound, contracted to escort the songstress Elena on a church assignment that quickly turns into a larger struggle against the fragmented devil Valmar. Battles combine turn order with free movement: characters advance along an action gauge, and hitting an enemy at the right moment can cancel its attack outright, while positioning determines how many targets a swing or spell will reach. Special moves grow stronger the more you use them, and magic is learned by equipping Mana Eggs and spending currency on spells. Between dungeons you explore towns, talk with your party at camp and follow the story through voiced cutscenes.
