Grandia – PS1 Game

A Japanese role-playing game in which you play as Justin, a boy who idolises a famous adventurer and sets out from his home town with a Spirit Stone and his friend Sue, travelling across the world in search of the ruins of an ancient civilisation. The story unfolds through towns, dungeons and long journeys, with a strong emphasis on exploration and travel. Battles take place on a field where characters and enemies move within range of one another, and turn order is tracked on a gauge, so positioning and timing affect whether attacks land or get interrupted. Weapon types and magic elements level up separately through use, unlocking new skills and spells. The PlayStation release presents its towns and dungeons in 3D environments with pre-rendered backdrops and animated cutscenes.
