Guitar Hero Aerosmith focuses its setlist on Aerosmith, with additional songs from other artists tied to the band’s career. Using a guitar controller, you hold fret buttons and strum in time with colored notes travelling down the on-screen fretboard, building Star Power to boost your multiplier and keep the crowd meter up. Career mode is arranged as a run through venues from the band’s history, with opening-act songs leading into Aerosmith material, and band footage and imagery appear between sections. Quickplay lets you replay unlocked songs, and there are competitive modes for two players. Difficulty settings range from simplified charts to full five-fret patterns. The Wii release supports compatible guitar controllers for the console. It plays as a themed entry in the series rather than a change to the core mechanics.
