Heart of Darkness – PS1 Game

A cinematic platform adventure in which you play Andy, a boy whose dog Whisky is snatched away by shadowy creatures. Chasing after him, you are pulled into a strange world of caverns, forests and floating rock, armed with a weapon that fires bolts of light capable of destroying shadow enemies and, at times, growing vines and platforms to reach new ground. Movement is deliberate and animation-driven, with running, jumping, climbing and swimming handled through hand-crafted frames rather than instant response. Progress comes largely through trial and error: many screens are puzzles built around a single hazard or enemy pattern, and death sends you back to a nearby checkpoint to try a different approach. Animated cutscenes carry the story between stages, told with almost no dialogue.
