Hydro Thunder – PS1 Game

Hydro Thunder is an arcade powerboat racer, adapted for the original PlayStation from the coin-op version. You pilot a speedboat through course environments filled with ramps, waterfalls, debris, and branching channels, hunting for boost pickups that fill a meter you can dump into bursts of speed. Shortcuts are hidden throughout the tracks, and finding them is a large part of learning each course. The handling is deliberately loose and exaggerated, with big jumps off waves and hard landings, so managing boost and staying pointed downstream matters more than precise cornering. Placing well in races unlocks additional boats, which vary in top speed, acceleration, and how easily they turn. Races run against a field of rivals with checkpoints extending the clock as you progress.
