Ishido: The Way of Stones is a tile-placement puzzle game. You draw stones from a pool, each carrying a colour and a symbol, and set them down on a board one at a time. A stone may only be placed next to stones it agrees with: touching pieces must share a colour or a symbol, and the more neighbours a stone touches, the stricter the matching requirement becomes. Placing a piece that matches four surrounding stones on both colour and symbol scores the biggest reward, so play becomes a matter of shaping the board to leave those openings available. The pace is unhurried, with no time pressure and no opponent to react to, and a game ends when you run out of legal places to put the stone in hand.
