The King of Fighters: Dream Match 1999 is the Dreamcast conversion of KOF ’98, a 2D fighting game built around three-on-three team battles in which fighters are sent out one at a time until a side is eliminated. Rather than advancing the series storyline, it assembles a large roster of characters from earlier entries with freely editable teams. You choose between two play styles that handle the power gauge differently, either charging and stocking meter through combat or building it manually to enter a temporarily strengthened state. The Dreamcast version redraws the stage backgrounds in 3D while keeping the hand-drawn sprite fighters, and includes arcade play, two-player versus, practice options and extra presentation content.
