Legend of Mana – PS1 Game

Legend of Mana is an action role-playing game in Square’s Mana series for the PlayStation. It uses a Land Make system: the world map starts nearly empty, and you place artifacts you acquire onto it to create towns, dungeons and other locations, with placement affecting what you find there. Quests are self-contained story arcs rather than one continuous plot, and several longer storylines run across them depending on the order you take them. Combat happens in real time on 2D side-view fields, with combo attacks, special abilities and equipment you can forge from materials. A second player can join in for battles. Supporting systems include raising pets and monsters, growing items in a garden, and crafting weapons and armour with varying properties. The presentation uses hand-painted backdrops and sprite characters.
