NBA 2K9 is an NBA-licensed basketball simulation for PlayStation 2, played five-on-five with real teams, players and arenas. The pace is simulation-oriented: you call sets, run screens, work the post and pick defensive assignments rather than trading dunks at arcade speed. Modes include single exhibition games, a full season with playoffs, and a franchise mode covering drafts, trades, free agency and player progression across several years. Player ratings and tendencies shape individual behaviour, while adjustable sliders and difficulty levels change how strict the simulation feels. Presentation uses a television broadcast approach with commentary, replays and on-screen statistics. Two or more players can share the console for head-to-head or co-operative games, and quarter length can be shortened for quicker matches.
