NBA Live 98 on the Sega Genesis is a 16-bit version of EA Sports’ basketball series, using a scrolling side-on court view and sprite-based players. You play five-on-five games with licensed NBA teams, handling passes, jump shots, drives to the rim, and defensive switching. Menus cover play calling, substitutions, roster editing, and trades, while pre-game options let you set quarter length, fouls, and difficulty. Alongside single games you can play a season with statistics tracking and continue into the playoffs. A second controller supports head-to-head or cooperative play, with multitap support for additional players on compatible hardware. Presentation includes a scoreboard overlay, crowd noise, and sampled sound effects. It arrived late in the Genesis library, well after the series had moved to 3D on newer consoles.
