New Super Luigi U is a side-scrolling platformer for Wii U that replaces the courses of New Super Mario Bros. U with a new set built around Luigi. Luigi jumps higher than Mario but slides further when he lands, and the levels are designed with that handling in mind. Each course is shorter and comes with a tighter time limit, so stages tend to be compact and demanding rather than sprawling. Nabbit is available as an additional playable character who cannot be hurt by enemies, making him an easier option for younger or less experienced players. The game uses the same overworld map and multiplayer setup as New Super Mario Bros. U, with several players able to run through courses together on one console.
