NFL Football ’94 Starring Joe Montana is an American football game for the Sega Genesis and part of the Joe Montana football line on Sega hardware, with Montana featured as the cover name. It uses NFL team branding, and you select plays from a menu before each snap, then take direct control of the ball carrier, quarterback or a defender during the down. Standard options include exhibition games against the computer or a second player, along with longer play toward a championship. Rules settings such as quarter length and penalties can be adjusted before kickoff. Controls use the Genesis three-button layout for passing, cutting, diving and tackling, and passing is handled by choosing among on-screen receivers. A cartridge-era take on 16-bit licensed pro football.
