A side-scrolling action platformer for the NES in which you again control the ninja Ryu Hayabusa. You move through multi-stage levels using a sword for close attacks, along with secondary ninja arts powered by a spirit meter that you refill from item pickups. Ryu can cling to and climb walls, letting you scale vertical shafts and dodge enemies that respawn as you move back and forth across the screen. A recurring mechanic gives you shadow clones that mirror your attacks, adding extra reach while they last. Boss fights close out each act, and the story is told between stages through cutscenes with portrait art and text. Stage hazards such as wind, snow and moving platforms complicate the platforming, and losing all lives sends you back to the start of the current section.
