Paladin’s Quest is a turn-based role-playing game for the Super Nintendo. You control a young student drawn into a conflict involving ancient towers and powerful magic, travelling across an overworld and through dungeons with a small party. Its most distinctive mechanic is the magic system: casting spells consumes your characters’ hit points rather than a separate magic meter, so offensive spellcasting is a constant trade-off against survival. Spells are purchased from shops and combined from different elemental sources, letting you build a personal set of attacks. You can also hire mercenaries to fill out the party alongside your permanent companions. The presentation leans on unusual pastel-toned backgrounds and strange organic architecture rather than a traditional medieval look, and combat is menu-driven with enemies encountered randomly as you explore.
